Buying a Hang drum(or a ‘PANArt Hang’) secondhand on ebay is an expensive business. With the average final sales price this last year (at time of writing) being just over the seven thousand dollar mark. A price that will either be a turn-off, or make them outright unobtainable for most. But, if you’re the sort of Hang hunter who’s committed to their cause, has the cash in the bank, and who has decided to just ‘go for it’.The first two Hanghang mentioned above were listed for sale on ebay.com, whereas the latter was listed on ebay.co.uk (and despite the seller being willing to ship internationally, didn’t appear within the American sites auction listings).
And this is not the first time that PANArt Hang sold on country specific ebay sites have sold for considerably less than they’ve sold for on ebay’s .com site.
Meaning that for those who aren’t too fussy about which scale their used Hang is tuned to, using the above examples, savings of nearly $3000* could be made by those willing to do their homework, and with a little patience.
* Depending upon your location, and the location of the Hang being purchased, import taxes may either increase, or reduce, these savings.
* Importing a Hang from the states to the UK, added an additional £140 ($228) to the final price of getting a Hang in the lap of a friend of mine. So these costs are also worth bearing in mind when purchasing a secondhand Hang internationally.
