New Year’s Resolution – Oh, Come On!

Many of us think that annoying problems we have can be best resolved by making a promise or two. “I want to trim down my tummy or lose weight.”, “This will be my last stick of cigarette, I’m quitting smoking.” or “I’ll be faithful to my partner.” These are the usual New Year’s resolutions we often hear from people from all walks of life. But the real point here is, do we really mean it? Whatever it may be, we all need to make good on our real intention. Saying these lines for the nth time wouldn’t matter at all if we keep on breaking it.

Those of us who have less evil in ourselves would care less. Looking at this people would sometimes put a little envy in us. If others can do it, why can’t we? Here are some annoying problems people have that they are dying to get rid off and the solutions that you can apply:

  1. Time Management – Some good employees in a working environment find it difficult to come to the office on time. A manager or supervisor would often reprimand and scold you for coming late. If you have become a candidate for expulsion, because of repeated tardiness, then you have a serious problem. Solution – Make a list of things you do as soon as you get up from bed each day of the week. Allot a specific time frame for each (i.e. eat breakfast – 10 mins., shower – 20 mins., dress-up – 20 mins., travel to work – 30 mins. etc.) Make sure that time frame would bring you to the office at least 15 minutes early before your official time. If these things won’t work, maybe getting a clock to be placed in each place in the house would help in some ways. Having to be reminded of time will put something in your sub-conscious mind.
  2. Alcoholism – Abusers are afraid or worried to be committed to a rehabilitation process, for reasons only known to you. A great number of people have tried self-healing. Although this technique have shown little progress, many also have succeeded. If both procedures have failed, try doing some or any of the following:
    1. Stay away for a while from officemates or friends who engage in Friday Night outs. These are the times of the week where gatherings of drinking take place. Will power is of great importance.  No amount of name calling from anybody should persuade you to break your will.
    2. Engage in regular physical exercise. When the body sweats, skin pores release toxic substances brought about by excessive alcohol in the body. The more you indulge in any physical activity, the more you perspire.
    3. Look away from alcohol counter shelves in the grocery. Seeing any brand or just being near any alcohol aisle gives you an urge to consume beer or liquor. Many times this urge is unstoppable, finding yourself holding a can or two again.
  3. Infidelity – It is common to see a husband or wife cheating from their spouse. Again, reasons only known to them. Though reasons vary, the most common one is falling out of love. It is sad to see a couple going through such a heartbreaking stage in their lives. Here is the only solution you can take in order to correct this sin: It is said that before marrying a partner, one needs to accept what he/she is. This is true. Since, everybody in this planet was born with a bad characteristic, we all should learn to accept it. Stop finding fault in your spouse.

Whatever you are wishing to change in yourself, you can only do it if you really put some sense in it. Be serious this time, so you won’t be making another promise next year. To all of you out there, start the new year right.
