Real Life Mother Sister Daughter All In The Same Film

The movie Tiny Furniture is about a girl who returns to New York City after graduating from a college in Ohio. She moves back in with her mother and younger sister. The recent college graduate is Aura, played by Lena Dunham. One of the many things that make Tiny Furniture a unique film is that the mother and two sisters in the film are real life mother-daugher-sister.

Lena Dunham’s real life sister, Grace Dunham, plays the role of Aura’s sister, Nadine.

Their real life mother, Laurie Simmons, plays the role of Aura’s mother, Siri ( aka ‘mom’)

Lena Dunham not only plays the lead part of Aura but she also wrote and directed Tiny Furniture.

Lots of nepotism in this film :-)

If you have not seen this film you might be wondering if all this family control somehow stifles this film. Can a film where the writer also has to direct her own mother and sister come across as a success? Will it feel too stifled?

I reviewed the film Tiny Furniture.  Click here to read my review. Find out if this much real family in one film will hurt or help its production.

If I can give you a hint, it is a good film but it is definitely not for everyone. Check out my review above and feel free to comment.

I also did a recent review on a much, much different film, Midnight in Paris. Midnight in Paris stars Rachel McAdams and Owen Wilson. Wilson and McAdams have teamed up before but are they now wearing out their on-screen relationship? Are these two as good together without Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers).

I wrote a review on the film Midnight in Paris. Check it out. If you enjoy my blog, feel free to sign up and follow. Please also check back for more great Excerptz posts as well.
